Talking Teen Mental Health at a Smash Room
This past Saturday afternoon, the walls of Frustration Station echoed with more than just the sound of breaking glass, they resonated with laughter, connection, and honest conversations about mental health. Two mental health therapists, one from For the Love of You Therapy and another from A Fruitful Spring partnered with Jack and Jill of America Pasco Chapter to host a unique and empowering event for teens centered around emotional wellness, stress management, advocacy, communication, and breaking the stigma around mental health.

Breaking Barriers. Literally and Figuratively
In a world where teens face constant pressures, from social media to academics to relationships, finding healthy outlets for emotions is essential. The Smash Room provided a perfect setting to explore the theme of releasing emotions in healthy ways. As the teens suited up in protective gear, they also prepared to let go of the weight of stress, frustration, and expectations.
Therapists Marissa Witter and Janissa Robinson led interactive discussions on why it’s important to not let emotions build up over time. Through engaging activities and open dialogue, they helped teens understand that while it’s okay to feel angry, stressed, or overwhelmed, what matters most is how we express those feelings.
Real Conversations, Real Impact
Between turns in the Smash Room, small group discussions encouraged honesty and self-reflection. The therapists guided conversations around topics such as:
Managing school and social pressures
Coping with anxiety and sadness
Setting boundaries in friendships and relationships
Finding healthy outlets for emotions
How to reach out for help when things feel heavy
Teens shared their thoughts, learned from one another, and discovered that talking about mental health doesn’t have to be intimidating, it can actually be empowering.
Smashing the Stigma
The event wasn’t just about breaking things, it was about breaking the silence that often surrounds teen mental health. By blending an interactive, fun experience with meaningful conversation, the therapists helped teens walk away with tools to manage emotions and a stronger sense of community.
Why Events Like This Matter
At For the Love of You Therapy, we believe in meeting teens where they are — and sometimes, that means trading a therapy couch for a baseball bat and a pile of old electronics. These creative outreach experiences build trust, normalize conversations about mental health, and remind young people that it’s okay to ask for help.
We’re grateful to Jack and Jill of America. for partnering with us in this mission and for providing a supportive space for teens to grow emotionally and mentally.
