Summer Loneliness After School's Out. You're Not Behind.. You're In- Between

Jun 11, 2026

When campus clears out, friendships shift, and your summer feels a little quieter than expected. Navigating the weird in-between season of fewer plans, less structure, and more time alone

If you came home from college and it feels like everyone has plans except you… I get it. Summer can be weirdly lonely even when you’re surrounded by people.

Loneliness isn’t proof you’re unlikable. It’s often proof your life just changed.

Why summer loneliness hits after college

  • Your routine disappeared overnight.

  • Your hometown friendships may be in a different season.

  • Social media makes it look like everyone is constantly together.

  • You’re grieving the summer you expected.

When being alone is good

  • You’re choosing it (not hiding).

  • You feel calmer afterward.

  • You’re doing something that restores you (walk, gym, journaling, reading).

  • You still have some connection in your week.

When it turns into isolation

  • You keep canceling because it feels ‘too hard.’

  • You’re stuck doom-scrolling and comparing.

  • Days pass and you realize you barely spoke to anyone.

  • Your sleep schedule is off and you feel worse.

A plan for this week - Tampa Bay edition

  • Pick 1 solo outing: Tampa Riverwalk sunset walk or St. Pete Pier people-watching, etc.

  • Pick 1 ‘parallel’ connection: a coffee shop work session or a group fitness class.

  • Send 1 low-pressure text: ‘I’m back in town—want to grab coffee this week? No pressure.’

  • Do 1 ‘reset night’: room tidy + laundry + early sleep.

You don’t need a packed group chat to have a good summer. You need a few anchors, a little momentum, and permission to be in your in-between season.

If you want, tell me your vibe (beach day, artsy day, foodie day, or active day) and I’ll help you create an itinerary you can do solo or invite someone into.
