Therapy For The Love of You

Therapy for Anger and Emotional Regulation

Anger is a normal feeling. It becomes a problem when it takes over: the outbursts, the slammed doors, the arguments that leave everyone drained, or the shutdown that follows. At Therapy For The Love of You, we help children (ages 6+), teens and young adults understand what is behind their anger and learn to respond instead of react.

What anger can look like

  • Children: meltdowns, tantrums, hitting or throwing things, refusing to follow directions, or big reactions to small problems.

  • Teens: irritability ("moods and 'tudes"), constant arguments, shutting down, slamming doors, or snapping at family and friends.

  • Young adults: short temper with partners, family or coworkers, feeling on edge, or regretting things said in the heat of the moment.

What is often underneath

Anger is often the feeling people can see. Underneath it there may be stress, anxiety, sadness, hurt, embarrassment or feeling out of control. Therapy gives you space to find out what your anger is protecting, so it does not have to run the show.

How we help

We tailor therapy to the person in front of us, drawing on Compassion-Focused Therapy, CBT, Solution Focused, Person Centered, play therapy techniques and mindfulness skills. In sessions, you can expect to:

  • Notice the early signs of anger in your body and your thoughts.

  • Learn calming tools you can use in the moment, such as breathing and grounding skills.

  • Practice new ways to say what you need without yelling or shutting down.

  • Work on the situations that set things off, at home, at school or at work.

  • For younger children, use play to practice handling big feelings.

We work at your pace and without judgment.

FAQ

Is my child's anger normal, or should I be worried?

All children get angry. It is worth reaching out if the outbursts are frequent, last a long time, hurt someone, or affect school, friendships or family life. A free consultation is a good chance to talk it through.

Will therapy make my teen "stop being angry"?

The goal is not to remove anger. It is to understand it, handle it safely and express it in ways that work. With practice, these skills can help make home calmer and arguments easier to work through.
