Therapy For The Love of You

Therapy for Human Trafficking Survivors

If you are in danger or need help right now: call 911 for an emergency. To talk with the National Human Trafficking Hotline, call 1-888-373-7888 or text 233733 (BEFREE), any time of day or night. For emotional support, call or text 988.

If you have survived human trafficking, healing is possible, and you are in charge of how it goes. At Therapy For The Love of You, we offer trauma-informed therapy for adults who have lived through trafficking or exploitation. Survivors are referred to our services by a trusted agency and community partner who help connect them with appropriate support.

What we understand

Trafficking can leave marks that are hard to name: fear, shame, numbness, trouble trusting others, nightmares, anxiety or feeling on guard all the time. These are understandable responses to what happened. They do not mean something is wrong with you.

How we work

  • You set the pace. You never have to share details of what happened before you are ready, or at all.

  • No judgment. We believe you and we focus on your strengths and your safety.

  • Choice and control. You help decide what we work on and how.

  • Practical skills. We use approaches such as Compassion-Focused Therapy, CBT, Solution Focused, Person Centered and mindfulness skills to help with sleep, anxiety, triggers and trust. Our approach is trauma-informed.

  • Privacy. Sessions are confidential, with the limits described below.

To learn more about trauma therapy, see our Trauma and PTSD page.

Support for parents

If you are a survivor and a parent, you can ask about support for your dependent children. We see children only occasionally and with approval, and we can talk about what to expect and how to take care of yourself too.

FAQ

Do I have to tell you everything that happened?

No. You decide what to share and when. Many people start by working on how they feel day to day, such as sleep, stress and safety, before they talk about the past.

Is what I say private?

Yes, with limits. Florida law protects the relationship between a client and therapist. There are exceptions where we are required by law to report, including suspected abuse of a child, dependent adult or elder, or a threat of serious harm to someone. We will explain this at the start so there are no surprises.

What if someone might see my messages or my screen?

If you think someone may be watching your phone or computer, use a device they cannot access, such as a friend's phone or a public library computer, to contact us or the hotline. You can also leave this page quickly by closing the tab or clicking the Leave this page quickly button.

Can sessions be online?

Sessions are typically online, across Florida. In-person sessions in Land O' Lakes are available when recommended by United Way.

Where else can I find help?
